Motorized shades are the best thing since sliced bread. Maybe that’s a stretch but with a house full of windows, they are absolutely a must have.

Motorized Shades and Blinds
Motorized shades and blinds are remotely controlled window covers. Shopping for motorized shades can be extremely overwhelming thanks to the vast options available. You can choose different types of shades which range in light allowance, color, material, size and power supply. Motorized shades and blinds can be electric blinds, electric shades, motorized blinds or even battery powered. The power supply can be rechargeable or it can be hardwired into your home. You can use a remote to control your blinds, an app on your phone or a switch on your wall. As I said, the choices are limitless.

We built a brand new home and have the lovely burden of installing window covers for each and every window. Our living room overlooks a lake and is the focal point of our home. For us, keeping this room bright and the windows exposed is a priority. That is why we finally decided to move forward with motorized shades.
Our Motorized Shades
Now that you have a high level understanding of Motorized Shades, I’m going to walk you our exact choices and where you can customize your own shades.

Customized Choices for Motorized Window Covers
Here are all our choices which you can customize when ordering your own motorized blinds:
- They are mounted inside our window frames
- Shades are not blackout and the color is pure white to match our windows
- We ordered 3 shades, 1 for our middle window and 2 for the outside windows
- Our motorized shades have a bluetooth motor that we will charge every 4-6 months
- We chose a 16 channel remote to control these since we plan on getting additional motorized shades for the upper windows and maybe our glass sliding door.
- We did not get a solar panel but may add this option to our slider cover to test out
- We ordered a standard USB charging wire and connect it using an extension cord when charging is needed
- Our chargers are on the left side
- We chose a white valance so the shades would blend in with our window trim (we were going for a no-show look)
- Our shades have a standard roll

That’s it! The choices may feel overwhelming but when ordering, the website walks you through each choice showing cost of upgrades, standard fees and totals. We loved this feature because it allowed us to easily choose where to invest. My biggest piece of advice is PAY ATTENTION to what you have in your cart. The blackout and the light filtering shade options look very similar so make 100% sure you have your desired option selected.
Installing Motorized Shades
Because these shades are custom made, it does take some time to ship. I can 100% tell you the wait is worth it. Our shades were installed the same day they arrived to our home. When my husband arrived to the house after work he started the install and had them installed and charging before dinner. The installation is similar to any other type of blind and it’s helpful to have a drill and tape measurer available.

That wraps up this post all about Motorized Shades! If you have more questions I haven’t addressed, leave them in the comment box below. These electric shades are an investment but one that you’ll be happy you made 🙂
