Handprint Santa Ornaments are a fun and easy Christmas craft you can do with your kids of any age! This is a simple craft that will be fun for everyone.

HOW TO USE THIS CHRISTMAS CRAFT

These salt dough ornaments are the perfect gift for grandparents, parents, God parents and more! It can be hard to not take control of painting but try your best to let your kids be in charge! Looking back at these ornaments makes my heart so happy know the kids painted all the details (except for our youngest since she wasn’t even 1).

OTHER IDEAS FOR SALT DOUGH CRAFTS

We originally starting making Easter Eggs with our salt dough. This was a fun Easter craft to complete especially during the lockdown of 2020. You can honestly make any shape you’d like and let your kids paint for holidays or parties. Have fun and start making great memories together!

HOW TO MAKE HANDPRINT SANTA ORNAMENTS

Supplies Needed

  • 1/2 Cup Salt
  • 2 Cups Flour
  • 3/4 Cup Warm Water
  • Rolling Pin
  • Parchment Paper
  • Acrylic Paint
  • Paint Brushes
  • Cotton Balls
  • Glitter
  • Ribbon/string for hanging

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix salt, flour and water together – knead dough.
  3. Roll dough onto floured counter-top with rolling pin.
  4. Use shape cutters (or hands) to create desired shapes. Use a straw to poke out a hole in the dough. This will be you place your ribbon for hanging.
  5. Place shapes on parchment lined baking sheet and bake for 2hrs.
  6. Once finished baking, let shapes sit overnight before painting.
  7. Have fun & decorate as desired! Once paint is dry, string ribbon through the hole and tie to hang on your tree!

CRAFT CLAY OPTION

If you’d prefer not to make salt dough, you can use craft clay which works in almost the same way. I’ve linked what I like below. This will come out of the oven white and doesn’t need to set overnight. It also only needs to bake for 30mins. Remember, 2oz of this will only give you 3-4 ornaments to decorate.

Hoping to find time to share some of our house updates like these motorized shades we’re obsessed with! 😍 I was a little anxious when we placed our order but it was sooo worth it. 🪟 I love how they blend perfectly with our windows so I hardly notice they’re there when we have them up. 100% recommend ✔️
